February 2026 --- MaryAnn Galindo
Congratulations Senior of the Month
MaryAnn wholeheartedly believes in giving back.
Her parents taught her the value of hard work and the importance of positively impacting people’s lives.
She feels that it is a blessing to serve the people of La Union. If she were to give a young person some advice, she would say, "educate yourself and always remember where you came from. Be compassionate towards people and see how you can help them."
MaryAnn Galindo
MaryAnn Galindo was born in La Union, New Mexico in January 1950. She has four brothers and six sisters. Her parents were Francisco Galindo and Adela Enriquez Galindo who also were from La Union.
MaryAnn enjoys working outside in the gardens. She loves living in La Union because there is much opportunity for improvement and there is a quiet and peaceful atmosphere that you cannot find in the cities. Much of her family lives in La Union. Volunteering and making a difference are her passion. The many places she volunteers is with Planning and Zoning, Dona Ana County, Empowerment Congress, and the Townsite of La Union. She helped form the Empowerment Congress and helped to get bus routes to the Southern part of Dona Ana County including La Union.
She goes out of her way to support whoever needs assistance and is wonderful with the elderly, middle aged, and children. MaryAnn understands and has compassion for the difficulties people experience when living in a poor community.
She has been working from a very young age to help the family. She remembers working in the agricultural field as she picked onions, cotton, chile, tomatoes, and other vegetables with the family.
Congratulations and thank you MaryAnn!
MaryAnn attended New Mexico State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, and is a proud graduate of Gadsden High School. She worked 13 years for the Anthony Motor Vehicle Department and 12 years for the New Mexico Department of Transportation, Anthony Port of Entry where she later retired. MaryAnn loves to attend webinars and local seminars and returns to improve the lives of La Union residents.
Presently, MaryAnn serves as President for both La Union Helping Hands and the La Union Watershed District. With the team, she envisions improving the prosperity of La Union residents. As President of La Union Helping Hands, she and the team have supported the residents with annual food distributions, health kits and beautifying the town. Because of her efforts, La Union now has a gazebo with benches, covered bus stop, welcome sign, and sidewalks for the town entrance. As President of La Union Watershed, she is working with the team to install streetlights and flood warning signs on frequently flooded streets. In addition, she is instrumental in placing a ponding area to retain rainwater to avoid flooding in the community. She sees the importance of protecting the residents’ property from flooding and preserving the water for future generations.
MaryAnn cares about all residents in the community and recognizes their value. She realizes that sometimes small kindness toward our residents is of high value in a community.
Her parents always encouraged her to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and the importance of getting involved. They taught her the value of hard work and the importance of positively impacting people’s lives.
