September 2025 --- Tomas Hernandez
Congratulations Senior of the Month
Tomas has a high level of compassion as when he sees someone in need, he doesn't hesitate to reach out.
Tomas Hernandez was born in La Union, New Mexico, on April 25, 1953. Both his parents were from La Union.
Although he is retired, Tomas works in El Paso, where he sells used furniture, which he enjoys doing. He had many jobs. He served as a custodian at Gadsden Independent School District and St. Lukes. He was also employed as a material cutter at the Surgical Company. In addition, Tomas worked as a caregiver for 18 years for both Care Coordinator and Ambercare.
He has fond memories as a child of playing volleyball at his house. All the neighborhood kids loved playing at his house, and after that, they’d go to the movies at Lomaland, costing just a dollar fifty. He loves living in La Union because everyone knows and takes care of each other. He said that we all know each other’s kids and help watch over them to keep them out of trouble. Big city life doesn’t have those advantages.
Tomas has a strong devotion to family. He loves getting together and talking about fun times. He enjoys parties and going out to lunch or dinner for his birthday or special occasions.
Taking care of his sisters while they were in the hospital shows his love and commitment to his family. He lovingly took care of them. When he offers to drive those in need to the grocery store or to the bank, he demonstrates his compassionate nature. Good thing about Tomas is that he is always smiling, laughing, and happy. Who doesn’t want to be around someone like that? He can see his neighbors at Walmart, and they will be talking as if they haven’t seen each other in years.
Tomas is grateful for his health and the ability to move freely. He is now more mature and wise and would like to advise the young people of today to get a good job and stay out of trouble. Finally, have fun with your family and friends. Have a good time in life and make the most of it. Most importantly, take care of each other when your family is sick or needs your help.
Congratulations Tomas, La Union is very lucky to have you as our resident!
