In 1959, Lorenza McClure married Santos Chavez Jr.

Little did she know that she would become a lifelong resident of La Union. As a young adolescent, she participated in several sports such as softball, volleyball, and soccer in school.

Her love of sports prompted her to become a member of the La Union Town Council. As a member of this council, one of her goals was to provide the youth of La Union an area of recreation. The La Union Town Council embarked on a journey to Santa Fe to request funding to establish a recreational area. 

Lorenza was the spokesperson who provided details and plans for the proposed area where the baseball/ softball park would be located. That trip was a resounding success as funds were provided, and the goal of building a baseball park became a reality. When she reminisces about that event, she is proud that many folks had their children participate in softball, Little League, and Pony League baseball.

She is proud of being a resident of La Union surrounded by pecan farms, vineyards, open spaces, and beautiful sunrises and sunsets that provide peace of mind.
