My Thoughts About Corona

By Matilde Ortiz

The definition of Pandemic:" an epidemic occurring worldwide, or over a very wide area crossing international boundaries and usually affecting a large number of people." No where in that definition does it say 2 and 3 year olds can no longer give you " high fives " when that is what they are used to doing. Nothing about the confusion of children used to playing with their friends and now must stay 6 ft. away. Nothing about educators trying to teach students online. Zoom and Google and sites crashing! Frustrating to say the least. Zero said about shields on your face, on your desk. Hand sanitizer, masks, gloves etc. So many changes and unpredictability as we try to navigate through this situation. Parents overwhelmed trying to teach, work and discipline all at the same time. Not to mention trying to keep their children engaged. Let's face it, we all want schools to reopen and children back in classrooms. We must do this as safely as possible for all. I have been working most of the summer and it's been very different. Vendors coming to measure desks for plexiglass, calls about hand sanitizer and masks and on and on. This must all be done to be able to open schools and protect children and staff. We have all heard " We can get through this together" I wholeheartedly believe that. I also believe that together we must all follow CDC, state and county mandates in order to stop the spread of this virus. I don't know about you but I want to hug my mother, daughter and granddaughters.
