Hello! I am currently the Vice President of La Union Helping Hands. I assist with everything I can, but I mostly purchase an abundance of clearance items that can be used for the organization to increase their budget. My employment allows me to provide many donated items.

A few years ago I was asked by Ms. Galindo if I would be interested in participating the new nonprofit organization, La Union Helping Hands. After some thought I agreed and have not regretted my decision to become involved. I’ve never been in any type of organization so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I am very glad that I am doing this because I have enjoyed every minute of it.

I believe in La Union Helping Hands because our community is in need of many things. We have done some good things, however; there is still much more to accomplish.

I enjoy taking pictures mostly of nature such as sunsets, sunrises or anything in that category. I enjoy my job because I interact with many children and they are so unpredictable and loving. Children say and do the funniest and sweetest things.

I have worked in a private school for 17 years and enjoy being around children. Children say the funniest things. One story that I would like to share with you is that one day a little girl asked me “Why do you have a fat water bottle?” My response was “I don’t know this is just what I bought.” She said to me, “Is it because you want to be a fat girl?” I then asked her “Why, you don’t want me to be a fat girl?” She said “No” which made me laugh. Children are so innocent; I know she didn’t mean anything by her comments. It amazes me how their little minds work. Those children keep me going and keep me on my toes. It’s all worth it as they go by my office at the end of the day and say “Bye Ms. Mati”!
