Town Improvements ~ County builds sidewalk in La Union

Dona Ana County in Las Cruces, New Mexico is working on installing sidewalks on Mercantile Street.  La Union residents are excited about the project that continues to beautify La Union. The sidewalks are a much-needed project for the safety of the residents.  Thank you Dona Ana County workers. We appreciate your presence in our town. You are most welcome here.

Doña Ana County - Doña Ana County’s Engineering/ Roads Department is building a 1,400-foot sidewalk on Mercantile Avenue that will be completed in June.

The Mercantile Ave. sidewalk will take about 90 days to complete and makes Mercantile Ave. more accessible to pedestrian traffic, throughout the year. The sidewalk will be built from Salome Hernandez Street to La Union Ave., and helps connect La Union Elementary School, the Union Mercantile Convenience Store and Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church.

La Union Helping Hands, a non-profit whose mission is to improve health, growth and prosperity posted on its Facebook page photographs of the project’s progress. They wrote to County Manager Fernando R. Macias that the construction crew working on the sidewalks, “are doing beautiful work and we appreciate them!!”

This sidewalk and other infrastructure improvement projects throughout Doña Ana County are made possible with $150,000 in capital outlay funding from the state’s legislature.
